Thermal Boarding to Prevent Condensation – Penn, Wolverhampton
Location: Penn, Wolverhampton
Project Overview
This project involved thermal improvement works to a residential property in Penn, Wolverhampton, where the client was experiencing ongoing condensation issues to two external walls.
During colder months, the walls were becoming cold enough for moisture in the air to condense on the surface, leading to damp patches and mould growth. Our brief was to provide a long-term solution to improve the internal environment and prevent further issues.
The Issue
The affected walls were external-facing and prone to low surface temperatures, particularly during winter.
As warm, moisture-laden air came into contact with these colder surfaces, condensation was forming, creating the ideal conditions for dampness and mould growth.
Without intervention, this type of issue typically continues season after season and can worsen over time, impacting both the condition of the property and indoor air quality.
Our Approach
To resolve the issue, we focused on increasing the surface temperature of the walls, thereby reducing the likelihood of condensation forming.
Thermal insulation boards were installed to the affected wall areas, effectively improving the thermal performance of the structure. By raising the internal surface temperature, the dew point is offset, preventing moisture in the air from condensing on the wall.
This method provides a reliable and energy-efficient solution to condensation-related problems.
Reinstatement & Finishing
Following installation of the thermal boards, the walls were plastered and finished to a smooth, high-quality standard, ready for decoration.
Due to the increased wall thickness created by the insulation system, a new window sill was installed to accommodate the revised wall profile and ensure a clean, finished appearance.
All areas were completed with attention to detail, ensuring both functionality and aesthetics were achieved.
The Result
The property in Penn, Wolverhampton now benefits from significantly improved wall surface temperatures, eliminating the conditions that previously caused condensation and mould growth.
The result is a warmer, drier and more comfortable living environment, with a clean, modern finish throughout.
All works were completed efficiently, with the property left clean and tidy on completion.
