High-Level Rising Damp Treatment – Sedgley, Wolverhampton
Location: Sedgley, Wolverhampton
Project Overview
This project involved rising damp treatment within a large, traditional residential property in Sedgley, Wolverhampton.
While the issue itself was consistent with rising damp, this case required a more tailored approach due to elevated moisture readings extending well beyond typical treatment heights. Our brief was to accurately assess the extent of the problem and implement a solution in line with best practice and current standards.
The Issue
The property was experiencing rising damp along a long internal wall, with moisture readings recorded significantly higher than the commonly assumed treatment height of one metre.
Although one metre is often used as a general guideline, rising damp can extend higher in certain circumstances, particularly where issues have been left untreated over time.
In accordance with best practice, treatment should extend to at least 300mm above the highest recorded moisture reading, which in this case required a much greater working height.
Our Approach
Following detailed moisture testing, it was determined that treatment would need to extend to approximately 1.8 metres in height along the affected wall.
All plaster was removed to this level to fully expose the contaminated masonry and allow for effective treatment.
A thixotropic damp proof course (DPC) was then installed via injection, forming a new chemical barrier to prevent further rising moisture.
A two-part bonded membrane system was also applied to isolate residual moisture within the wall structure and provide a reliable base for reinstatement.
This approach ensured that both the source of the damp and the extent of contamination were fully addressed.
Reinstatement & Finishing
Following installation of the damp proofing system, the wall was reinstated using wet plaster to rebuild the surface to the correct level.
Care was taken to blend the newly plastered areas seamlessly into existing finishes where appropriate, ensuring a consistent and high-quality result throughout.
All treated areas were finished to a smooth standard, ready for decoration.
The Result
The property in Sedgley, Wolverhampton now benefits from a comprehensive rising damp solution tailored specifically to the extent of the issue.
By working beyond standard assumptions and following correct moisture readings, we ensured that the treatment was both accurate and effective.
The result is a fully protected wall, finished to a high standard, and a long-term solution that provides the client with confidence and peace of mind.
