Penetrating Damp Repair Following Downpipe Leak – Kidderminster

Project Overview

This project in Kidderminster involved remedial damp proofing works following a prolonged external water leak that had affected an internal bedroom wall.

The issue was traced back to a defective downpipe, which had been leaking over time without the homeowner’s knowledge. This had resulted in moisture ingress to the lower section of the internal wall, requiring both external repair and internal remedial works.

The Issue

A leaking downpipe had allowed water to discharge against the external wall over an extended period, leading to penetrating damp within the internal bedroom space.

This caused deterioration of the lower wall plaster and increased moisture levels within the surrounding structure. In addition, the ends of the timber joists bearing into the wall (joist ends) had been exposed to elevated moisture levels, requiring precautionary treatment.

 

Our Approach

The first step was to rectify the source of the problem externally, ensuring the defective downpipe was repaired and no further water could enter the structure.

Internally, all affected plaster was removed to expose the underlying masonry and allow the structure to dry and be properly treated.

As a precautionary measure, the joist ends embedded within the wall were treated with a timber preservation treatment to protect against potential decay due to the previously elevated moisture levels.

A two-part bonded membrane system was then installed to isolate any remaining moisture within the wall and provide a reliable barrier prior to reinstatement.

Reinstatement & Finishing

Following installation of the membrane system, the wall areas were re-plastered to restore the original finish.

All treated areas were brought back to a smooth, high-quality standard, ready for decoration.

Care was taken throughout to maintain a clean and tidy working environment, with all areas left neat on completion.

The Result

The property in Kidderminster now benefits from a fully resolved damp issue, with both the source of moisture eliminated and the internal wall professionally restored.

By addressing the external cause, protecting vulnerable timber elements, and installing a robust internal system, we delivered a complete and long-lasting solution.

The client was left with a dry, clean and well-finished bedroom space, along with confidence that the issue has been properly dealt with.
