Our Woodworm Treatment
Our customers in Wolverhampton discovered an active Death-watch beetle infestation to some incredibly large, very old timbers!
Death-watch beetles (Xestobium Rufivillosum) is one of the largest wood boring beetles with a bore hole of 2-3mm, which is bigger than the Common Furniture beetle (Anobiu Punctatum). Obviously, larger holes mean greater damage to the timber. Different beetles prefer different woods and typically Death-watch attack wide poured hardwoods such as oak. This means Death-watch infestations are often found in structural timbers of very old buildings, as was the case here. Our technicians pulled back plasterboard panels to expose the extent of the infestation. We used a combination of timber preservation gel treatment and injectable treatment to prevent further attacks.
There are a number of different types woodworm beetles. The one that you have can dictate the type and extent of your problem. It is also advisable to investigate and solve possible dampness issues as dry wood is not usually affected and damp wood may be re-infected again later.
