Full Height Rising Damp Treatment & Thermal Upgrade – Rowley Regis, Dudley

Project Overview

This project involved extensive rising damp treatment within a traditional cottage property in Rowley Regis, Dudley.

The issue had been left untreated for a prolonged period, resulting in severe moisture ingress and contamination throughout the wall structure. In addition, there had been elements of penetrating damp, which were addressed externally prior to our involvement.

Our role was to carry out a full internal remediation and provide a long-term solution to restore the affected living space.

The Issue

Rising damp within the property had progressed significantly, with moisture readings extending up to full ceiling height within the lounge area.

This level of contamination is uncommon but can occur in older properties where issues have been left unresolved for extended periods.

The walls were heavily affected, with deterioration to plaster finishes and a high level of salt contamination within the masonry, requiring a full-height treatment approach.

Our Approach

Due to the severity of the issue, all wall plaster was removed to full height, exposing the underlying masonry and allowing for complete treatment.

A thixotropic damp proof course (DPC) was installed via injection, forming a new chemical barrier to prevent further rising moisture.

A two-part bonded membrane system was then applied to all wall areas, isolating residual moisture and contamination within the structure.

To further improve performance, thermal insulation boards were installed to the external wall sections, helping to increase surface temperatures and improve overall comfort within the room.

Reinstatement & Finishing

Following installation of the damp proofing and membrane systems, the room was reinstated using a combination of plasterboard and wet plaster where required to achieve the correct wall levels.

All areas were then plastered and skimmed to a smooth, high-quality finish, ensuring a consistent and professional result throughout.

The integration of thermal boarding also contributes to improved energy efficiency and internal comfort.

The Result

The cottage in Rowley Regis, Dudley has been fully restored following a severe and long-standing damp issue.

By carrying out a full-height treatment and incorporating both damp proofing and thermal improvements, we delivered a comprehensive, long-term solution.

The result is a dry, warm and professionally finished living space, with the underlying issues fully addressed and the property brought back to a high standard.
