High moisture levels found to the existing concrete floor of 1960,s semi detached property. Concrete potentially poured with no damp proof membrane incorporated or membrane damaged in some way allow ground moisture ingress.

The solution:

Removal of the broken down thermoplastic tiled surface to the solid floor. Layered applications of liquid applied damp proof membrane to prevent moisture from the solid floor damaging finished flooring applications.

How we did it:

When dealing with a solid concrete floor that has high moisture content there are two ways in which we can achieve a surface that will accept a finished floor covering without risk of damage through moisture transfer. Option one is to dig out and excavate the concrete, fit the correct damp proof membrane required, insulate to building regulations and pour a new concrete floor. This option is obviously very disruptive and costly but in some more severe cases is necessary.

The second option and more preferred method if possible is to repair any defects such as cracks and weak spots. Clean down the floor area removing any debris and dust and prepare as required for a coat of liquid applied membrane. Once the first coat is applied it must be left to cure before a second coat can be applied and then once again a third to complete the moisture resistant membrane.

After the areas have fully cured the finished flooring can be applied without the risk of damage through moisture transfer.
